Legends

This is a collection of six chilling stories from Kadokawa, the Japanese studio that produced the blockbuster horror films The Ring and The Grudge. Chiaki Kuriyama, Jinpachi Nezu, Aki Maeda and Asami Mizukawa star in it.

"PEONY LAMP"
- Shinzaburo, a maverick samurai, receives a surprise nighttime visit from his former lover Otsuyu, who supposedly died from a disease. She insists that faking death was her father's ploy to keep them apart. After spending a night together, only the light of day will showcase what Shinzaburo is holding in his arms.

"THE BEAR" - A poster in a tunnel warns schoolgirls Mami and Rika "if you see a woman with a teddy bear doll, you'd better run for your lives." Though Mami senses evil afoot, Rika dismisses it as just another kooky hoax. In little time, one of their intuitions will prove horribly wrong.

"YAMABA" - Several writers are sent to a remote village to investigate a legend involving an old mountain hag. But when every villager they meet seems to be hiding something, suspicion and intrigue ensue. Only a local bonze's age-old story can reveal the truth.

"NURARIHYON" - A boy happens to see a phantom sneaking into his house to play mischief and wreak havoc. Though the boy tries to be kind, the spectar insists on giving him the cold shoulder. But one fateful night, when would-be burglars descend on the house, the boy sees that his overtures have paid off.

"HEARTBROKEN TRIP" - After Chiharu's boyfriend walks out on her, kind-hearted Yoshiko plans to cheer her up on a trip to a hot springs resort. Arrivning at the inn ahead of Yoshiko, Chiharu couldn't possibly know what awaits her there.

"LOST SOULS" - A couple is enjoying late night snacks at a lake-side restaurant after a day's drive. Things are just fine until a family of four comes inside. The cook tells the couple never to look at the family because...

Our Thoughts

Rose Kitsune says:
I'm a big fan of legends and horror (and a lot of other things..) so I just had to get this DVD. 'Heartbroken Trip' I think was the saddest one (while still being somewhat happy) second would be Lost Souls. The happiest one would be 'Nurarihyon' and 'The Bear' was the scariest one. None of them was really horror horror but more like scary stories. This is just my opinion. I really want to get the first one of this set, 'J-Horror Anthology: Underworld.' I wonder what it is about....*wonders off thinking*

Suzaku says:
Didn't watch it.  *Rose Kitsune whispers* More like won't watch it because it's horror, but it's not really that scary!
