Words, Phrases and Audio

The words and phrases are what I have learned from my High School Japanese class that I saved on flash cards. I am very confident that these are right since my teacher was Japanese and was born in Japan. She had us call her Aoki-sensei.
(Her whole name basically translated to Miss Blue Tree.)

Phrases

O namae wa? - What is your name?

Onamae wa nan desu ka? - What is your name?

(Aoki) desu. - My name is (Aoki).

Kochira wa (Aoki) san desu. - This is (Aoki).

Hajime mashite. - Nice to meet you.

Doko ni sunde masu ka? - Where do you live?

(Kanada) kara kimashita. - I am from (Canada).

(Hirusuboro) ni sunde masu. - I live in (Hillsboro).

Sumimasen, nihon jin desu ka? - Excuse me, are you Japanese?

Iie, chigai masu, (kankoku) jin desu. - No, I am not, I am (Korean).

Sumimasen, nani jin desu ka? - Excuse me, what nationality are you?

Nani jin (desuka)? - What nationality?
Ohayou gozai masu. - Good morning.

Kon nichi wa. - Good afternoon. (Hello)

Kon ban wa. - Good evening.

Sayou nara. - Good bye.

Shitsurei shimasu. - Good bye. (polite)

O yasumi nasai. - Good night. (polite)

Itte kimasu. - See you later.

Ja, matta ne. - See you later.

Ja ne. - See you later. (casual)

Mata rai shuu. - See you next week.
(Have a nice weekend.)

Mata ashita. - See you tomorrow.

Itte rasshai. - Have a good day.

Tadaima! - I'm home!

Okaeri nasai. - Welcome back.

Ogenki desu ka? - How are you?

Iie, genki ja nai desu. - No, I am not fine.

Hai, genki desu. - I am fine.

Itadaki masu. - Greeting before a meal.

Gochi sou sama deshita. - Greeting after a meal.

Arigatou gozaimasu. - Thank you very much.

Doumo arigatou gozaimasu. - Thank you very much. (polite)

Osore irimasu. - Thank you very much.
(super polite)


Arigatou. - Thank you.

Doumo arigatou. - Thank you.

Doumo. - Thanks. (casual)

Iie, tandemo nai. - Don't mention it.

Dou itashimashite. - You are welcome.

Kochira koso. - Same here.

Dai joobu desu. - That's OK.

Iie. - Don't mention it.

Sumi masen. - Excuse me. (casual)

Gomen nasai. - I am sorry. (polite)

Douzo yoroshiku. - Please accept my regard.

Ganbatte (ne). - Good luck, Try harder, good job, hold on, keep it up.
(depends on the situation and how you say it)


Yatta (ne)! - All right!  or  I (you) did it!

Komatta ne. - I'm in trouble, I'm confused.

Dame (desu) ne. - That's not good.

Shikata nai (desu) (ne). - There's no way around it.

Shouganai (desu) (ne). - There's no way around it.

Sugoi (desu) (ne). - Cool!  or  That's great!

Dasai (desu) (ne). - Uncool.

Kawaii (desu) (ne). - Cute!

Kakkoii (desu) (ne). - Cool!  or  Good looking!

Honto (desu ka)? - Really?

Zettai. - Absolutely.  or  For sure.

Shinji rare nai! - Incredible!
(literally: I can't believe it!)

Masaki! / Maji??? - Impossible!, That can't be!, No way!

Usooo! - You are kidding!
 (literally: That's a lie!)

Chotto! - Hey!

Shimatta! - I should have done it!  or  Shoot!

Kudasai.- Give me.

Sou (desu) ne. - Let me see.

Otan joubi omedetou (gozaimasu)! - Happy birthday!

Shitsumon ga arimasu. - I have a question.

(Book) wa nihongo de nan desu ka? - What is (Book) in Japanese?

Mouichido onegai shimasu. - One more time.

Hajime mashou. - Let's begin.

Wakarimasu ka? - Do you understand?

Hai, wakari masu. - Yes, I understand.

Wakari mashita. - I got it.

Oboete imasen. - I don't remember.

Iie, wakari masen. - No, I don't understand/know.

Katazuke mashou. - Let's clean up.

(Hon) wa eigo de nan desu ka? - What is (Hon) in English?

(Enpitsu kezuri) wo tsukatteno ii desu ka? - May I use (a pencil sharpener)?

(Enpitsu) wo kari temo ii desu ka? - May I borrow (a pencil)?

Shabera naide kudasai. - Please don't talk.

Shizukani shite kudasai. - Please be quiet.

Chi koku shimashita. - I am late.

Omizu wo namini ittemo ii desu ka? - May I go and drink water?
(May I go and get a drink of water?)

(O te a ra i) e iitemo ii desu ka? - May I go to (the restroom)?

Itte kudasai. - Please say it.

Totte kudasai. - Please take this.

Suwatte kudasai. - Please sit down.

Denki wo tsukete kudasai. - Please turn on the light.

Denki wo keshite kudasai. - Please turn off the light.

Ben kyou shite kudasai. - Please study.

Shukudai wo shite kudasai. - Please do your homework.

Kami wo dashite kudasai. - Please take out a piece of paper.

This is very simple. On the left side is the word, or kanji, and on the right side is what it stands for.
